Does the menstrual cycle affect acne?

Interesting article about the affect the menstrual cycle has on hormones which references acne…

“Greasy skin and acne caused by increase in oil production—As early as the 14th day from the first day of my last cycle, switch to a skincare program for oilier skin that contains salicylic acid and stay with it until the fourth or fifth day of my cycle.

My two favorites are L’Oreal Pure Zone Deep Purifying gel cleanser, which also removes make-up, and PZ Pore Tightening and clarifying toner and Deep Control Anti Imperfection Moisturizer, which mattifies my skin, makes pores smaller, controls oil production and prevents future breakouts.

For those who have rough skin or lots of dead skin accumulated on the surface, replace L’Oreal’s Deep Purifying gel wash with the Deep exfoliating gel wash.

The other tried-and-tested line is Clinique’s three-step skincare program. Number 3 is for oily skin, number 4 is for very oily skin. The rule is to step up a number from your usual routine. Thus, if you are regularly a skin type 2 (normal/combination), move up to a 3. The good part about Clinique is that all you need to change would be the toner/lotion and not the rest of the skincare line. You might have to do away with the moisturizer for the time being or limit it to evenings only.”
