Severe Acne Treatment Methods
The best treatment for severe acne used by dermatologists includes prescription medications and certain physical methods. These include isotretinoin, oral antibiotics and contraceptives, intralesional corticosteroid injection, as well as drainage and surgical excision. There are certain large cysts that do not respond to medications. Therefore, they may need to use drainage and extraction. This is also called acne surgery, and it must not be performed by patients.

There are however few serious side-effects associated with this method including severe birth defects in developing fetus, severe pain in abdomen and chest, bone and joint pain, severe headache, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, painful swallowing, thinning hair, depression, rectal bleeding and dryness of skin.
Oral Antibiotics
The P. acne’s population is being reduced by the use of oral antibiotics, another severe acne treatment, and hence a decrease of inflammation. Oral antibiotics are provided in high doses in the beginning of this treatment. Once the acne begins to subside, a gradual reduction of medication takes place. Erythromycin, doxycline, tetracycline and minocycline are most effective in treating acne.

Oral contraceptives can be used in conjunction with Spironolactone to treat acne in adult females.
