Some Tips For Covering Up Pimples

Despite the fact that there are a lot of safe and effective over-the-counter and prescription medications for treating acne, getting rid ot acne does take time and so, while the medicine is doing its work, the majority of people are anxious to cover up their spots as much as possible.

Having said this, it might be argued that since this is a condition that affects approximately 85% of the population between the ages of about twelve and twenty-four you shouldn’t worry about trying to cover it up at all since nearly all of us have to go through it. But, try telling that to a young person who is heading out on that critical first date.

Women especially tend to suffer more as, like it or not, women are judged more on their looks. However, they are also fortunate enough to have a ready-made answer in the form of makeup.

Regular makeup however can cause problems and, although it may well cover up your acne, it can also worsen the condition. The solution here therefore is to purchase makeup which is specifically formulated for people with acne and that means makeup that is labeled as ‘non-comedogenic’. This term is derived from the word ‘comedone’ which is the medical name for the whiteheads and blackheads produced by most mild forms of acne.

You should start by looking for a concealer which can be dabbed onto pimples using a disposable sponge. You need to be sparing in your use of concealer though and use just as much as you need and no more.

Next it is on to a foundation which is very good at blending your skin tones and again this has to be used sparingly but in sufficient quantity to give you an even color overall. Foundation is not only excellent at covering your pimples but, because it is less reflective than your skin itself, it also softens shadows and lessens the contrast that is frequently produced by the bumps that occur with acne.

Finally, a light application of powder can also assist in further blending color tones, reducing shadows and eliminating contrast.

But what about the men? Well, there are two approaches which you can adopt here. The first is to follow the women and apply makeup and you will discover that there is makeup available nowadays which is specially formulated to be used by men. However, if you feel that this is not for you then the second approach is to use one of the range of over-the-counter treatments that contain acne covering compounds designed to help cure the condition and at the same time to hide its appearance.

It would be nice if we had an acne cream treatment which could get rid of acne fast but at present clearing acne tends to be a somewhat slow process and so, until we have some treatments and products that cure acne quickly, effectively concealing the problem will continue to be important for many sufferers.
