Some Tips For Covering Up Acne Spots
Despite the fact that there are many effective over-the-counter treatments for mild to moderate cases of acne and prescription medicines for more severe acne, curing acne takes a bit of time and so, while the medicine is doing its work, most people want to conceal their spots as much as they can.
Having said this, it might be argued that since this is a condition which affects approximately eighty-five percent of the population between the ages of about twelve and twenty-four you really shouldn’t worry about trying to cover it up at all since we almost all go through it. But, try telling that to a youngster who is heading out on that all important first date.
Women tend to suffer more because, like it or not, they tend to be judged more on their looks. However, they also have a ready-made answer in the form of makeup.
Regular makeup can lead to problems and, while it will cover up your acne, it could also worsen the underlying condition. The solution here therefore is to purchase makeup which is specifically formulated for use with acne and this means makeup which is labeled as ‘non-comedogenic’. If that sounds like a strange term it is derived from the word ‘comedone’ which is the scientific name for the whiteheads and blackheads accompanying certain mild forms of acne.
Your first line of defense should normally be a concealer which can be dabbed onto your spots using a disposable sponge. You must be careful though in using a concealer and use only as much as you need and no more.
Next it is on to a foundation which is excellent for blending the tones of your skin and again this has got to be used sparingly but in sufficient quantity to give you an even color overall. Foundation is not only excellent at covering your acne spots but, because it is not as reflective as your skin itself, it also softens shadows and reduced the contrast produced by the bumps which occur with acne.
Lastly, a light covering of powder can also help to further even out color tones, lessen shadow and eliminate contrast.
But what about the men? There are two approaches here. The first is to follow the women and use makeup and you will discover that there is makeup available these days that is specifically formulated for use by men. If, however, you feel that this is not for you then the second approach is to buy one of the range of over-the-counter treatments that contain acne covering compounds designed to both help cure the condition and at the same time to hide its appearance.
Of course it would be great if we had an acne cream treatment that could cure acne fast but for the moment clearing acne is a somewhat slow process and so, until we have some products and treatments that get rid of acne fast, finding effective ways to conceal the condition is going to be important to many sufferes for a while yet.
